Smoked Meat

Ok, so as a species we have been on this earth for thousands of years. In the early years, before we could just go to the store and buy our own food we were hunter and gatherers. We lived off the land and ate what was available and did not consume any processed foods.

Now back in the Neanderthal days life expectancy was quite low due to the lack of shelter and sanitation (don’t think anyone used soap back then) and a myriad of reasons other than food.

What I am getting to is that a recent study is now saying that the very meat that we have been eating for thousands of years is as harmful as smoking. Yes that’s not a typo. That very meat from the store is destroying your body just as bad as those cancer sticks.

The recent study has been all over the news basically claiming that those who had a high animal protein diet were 4 times more likely to die from cancer than someone with a low protein diet. Yet here’s the kicker; one of the same researchers from the study at the University of Southern California said that increasing your intake of protein after age 65 will actually increase your longevity. Huh?

The results seem kind of conflicting and numbers of nutritionists agree that the results are not quite right. Heather Ohly, a European health researcher and professor Tim Key (a UK cancer researcher) both believe that there needs to be more research. A researcher even stated that cigarette smoking has been proven to be detrimental to our health while meat in moderation can be part of a healthy diet.

Many top nutritionists believe that making these claims are very dangerous and can easily sway the public from maintaining a balanced diet. This study should really be taken with a grain of salt. There is far too little backing to give it credibility with these preposterous claims. If you see this study, ask yourself this…. How can you compare something that has many benefits and few draw backs to something that has no benefits and every drawback you can think of?
