Holiday Hangover Cure???

A new study just recently came out for hangovers. This study is claiming that the soda “Sprite” may be one of the best beverage choices when it comes to fighting a hangover. So, is this claim realistic, or is it just an impressive marketing tactic for Sprite? Let’s see if this study may hold weight.

Let’s begin with the fact that Sprite is a non-caffeinated beverage. Caffeine narrows your blood vessels and increases blood pressure. These side effects will make a hangover worse. It may sound like a good idea to drink some form of an herbal tea to get rid of a hangover. It may be easy to believe that the antioxidants will wash our body clean of the toxins. This is not true, due to the fact that tea has caffeine in it. Alcohol creates the symptoms of a hangover because of a toxic byproduct called acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde causes symptoms such as nausea and upset stomach. The magical part about Sprite is its ability to speed up the breakdown of acetaldehyde and turn it into a much more benign byproduct called acetate. When other sodas and beverages were tested, they found that only Sprite lowered acetaldehyde and increased acetate. So, is Sprite the cure for a hangover?

It’s still a little too early to tell. This study has only been performed in lab beakers as of right now. The real results of this study will come after the testing is performed on humans. You don’t need to wait for those tests to arrive though. Next time you feel like you may have a hangover, give Sprite a try and see if it does the trick. With this new study, Sprite sales are sure to go through the roof as the holiday drinking starts to take place. You might want to keep a watchful eye on those stocks.
